How did your understanding of your character evolve throughout filming?
The first week of filming was spent purely focusing on the scenes with just Beth and Kerri. It was so nice to be able to spend time to build up that dynamic, and as filming progressed we started filming scenes with the other characters. It was fun to explore how Beth acts around her friends versus just with Kerri.
I was definitely surprised at Beth’s vitriol in the fight scenes this season. Spoiler alert: Kerri and Beth’s big fight in Kerri’s bedroom was definitely the biggest shift I have felt with Beth. I loved getting to explore that side of her, as we so often see her avoiding conflict at any cost. It may seem like a big leap for Beth, but all of those feelings were still existing inside her, this was just the one time she really let them out.
I think the most challenging part was balancing the side of Beth that is all ‘head in the clouds’, and struggles to pick up social cues, with the side of her that is super intellectual and emphatic. It was fun to explore what side of her was most prevalent scene to scene, and really help shape her into a complex, developed character.
I think the play aspect is so fun. You get to see all the drama and chaos that goes behind the scenes, and then get a little snippet of the play itself. It’s very funny.
The most memorable moment from filming this season would have to be the first day. It was actually my first day filming anything for Flunk. I was full of nerves but so excited. We ended up filming some of the most pivotal scenes this season that first day. It really helped Kiera and I bond and create chemistry as well.

I always liked filming the classroom scenes because we would have most of the cast there. Sometimes it really felt like we were back in highschool, getting into fits of giggles.
Honestly I learned how to memorise lines extremely quickly. The filming schedule was a lot more fast paced than the other projects I’ve been on. This meant I had to learn a whole new technique to make sure I was always off book. This technique has now become part of my process on every shoot I’m on.
When we were filming in the theatre location we were quite far away from everything. On our lunch break we found a little coffee shop and all piled into Keira’s car. There were probably a few too many of us in the car but it was so fun to just blast music and drive around the beautiful picturesque streets up in the hills.
I hope audiences take away how important communication is in a relationship. Most of Kerri and Beth’s problems stem from a lack of communication that leads to assumption. All of that would be avoided if they learned to be open and communicate their needs and boundaries. It’s so hard, especially for young people still figuring out what they like and dislike and where their boundaries are. It’s especially hard for a people pleaser like Beth, but it is so vital.
