What surprised you most about your character’s journey this season?
After watching the show back and seeing Georgie’s arc, I still don’t think highly of her as a person, but I can occasionally see why she is the way she is. There’s probably a mix of jealousy and genuine protectiveness toward her friends. I think she feels more than she lets on, and her bitchiness is likely a defense mechanism. That said, I did see the funny side of her. While she’s kind of awful, she’s also hilarious in her own way.
How did your understanding of your character evolve throughout filming?
Because we filmed out of order, I had to drop into different versions of Georgie depending on where we were in the timeline. That was a challenge, but I think I actually softened a bit as the character the more time I spent playing her. So, there might be some glimpses of warmth in her, even if it’s just a flicker.
What was the most challenging aspect of bringing your character to life this season?
It was definitely her personality. Tapping into that energy took a bit of work, but it was also kind of fun. I struggled sometimes to understand her choices and why she was saying certain things. I think she clearly cares a lot about Beth, but she’s so uncomfortable showing it that it ends up manifesting in a closed-off, passive-aggressive way.
What are you most excited for viewers to experience when they watch this season?
The play! School productions are always chaotic and fun, and this one, created by a bunch of high-school students, is such a DIY mess that it’s hilarious. I love watching everyone band together to make this show happen, even while all the tension bubbles underneath. The end result is ridiculous and brilliant and makes me laugh every time.
What was the most memorable moment from filming this season?
There’s honestly so many that it’s hard to pick! I think my favourite was probably when Harriette, Keira and I got the giggles filming the play. We kept trying to choreograph these silly little dances and just got totally carried away. At one point Harriette and I were singing Natasha Bedingfield’s “Pocket Full of Sunshine” on a loop. No idea why, but it was iconic.
What was your favourite location you filmed at, and why?
My favourite location was definitely the theatre. The process of putting on the play in the show was hilarious, fun, and such a joy for the whole cast. I’m a theatre kid at heart, so I felt very at home there. I really hope viewers can enjoy those silly, goofy moments as much as we did making them.
What’s something you learned about yourself as an actor during this production?
I learnt that I actually really enjoy jumping around the timeline while filming. My first day on set, most of my scenes were kind of in the middle of the season, so I had to immediately embody those relationships and dynamics without much warm-up. It was exciting to just drop in and trust the work.
What do you hope viewers take away from your character’s story this season?
I honestly hope that viewers see Georgie for what she is, which is not, by any means, a good friend. But I also hope they can appreciate the silliness she brings to the show. She might remind people of someone they’ve known in real life, someone whose jealousy or passive-aggressive comments stand out. Georgie is a bit of a warning sign: a reminder to be careful who you let into your life and your business – especially when that person is weaponising your private thoughts against the people you love.
